In particular, they remind us of the ultimate meaning of our life, which is eternal communion with God, and they remind us of the bond that exists between the Church on earth and that of heaven, between us and our deceased. A bond of faith but also of affection and mutual help. It is the communion of saints. And Halloween? Without a doubt it is today a consumerist celebration, imported in its current form from the United States. It is also true that the enemies of the Church, Satanists and followers of the occult have appropriated it. But originally it was a Christian, or rather Catholic, holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-medium-font-size\" style=\"font-style:italic;font-weight:700\">The name itself explains it in its etymology. Hallows\u00a0indicates the saints and\u00a0-een\u00a0the eve (from\u00a0evening, evening). So the word means evening or eve of the saints. As with every Christian celebration, that of all saints also begins the evening or night before (as for Christmas Eve or Easter night).  The Christians \u2013 great masters of joy and celebration \u2013 invented the feast of saints (and the commemoration of the dead) to celebrate the fact that death was defeated and that the harsh evil was now defeated. We need to talk to children about this, explaining the name Halloween. The Catholic Celts (the ancient Irish) began to celebrate the illumination of the night, the pumpkins that put evil to flight, the sky that visited the earth, the sweets that the dead brought to their descendants as a sign of their ever-present love and their intercession for their loved ones before God, the defeat of evil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-medium-font-size\" style=\"font-style:italic;font-weight:700\">The tradition is not just Northern European. For example, even in Sicily and Sardinia \u201cdesserts of the dead\u201d are used. What to do, then? Perhaps it is the case that we Catholics reclaim Halloween, freeing ourselves as much as possible from consumerist ties and explaining to our children the communion that binds us to our deceased and to all the saints. Not neglecting a visit and a prayer at the cemetery. In particolare ci richiamano al senso ultimo della nostra vita, che \u00e8 la comunione eterna con Dio, e ci ricordano il legame che c\u2019\u00e8 tra la Chiesa della terra e quella del cielo, tra noi e i nostri defunti. Un legame di fede ma anche di affetto e di reciproco aiuto. \u00c8 la comunione dei santi. E Halloween? Senza dubbio \u00e8 oggi una festa consumistica, importata nella forma attuale dagli Stati Uniti. \u00c8 anche vero che i nemici della Chiesa, i satanisti e i seguaci dell\u2019occulto se ne sono appropriati. Ma in origine era una festa cristiana, anzi cattolica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" style=\"font-style:italic;font-weight:700\">Lo spiega il nome stesso nella sua etimologia.\u00a0Hallows\u00a0indica i santi e\u00a0-een\u00a0la vigilia (da\u00a0evening, sera). Quindi la parola significa sera o vigilia dei santi. Come per ogni festa cristiana, anche quella di tutti i santi inizia la sera o la notte precedente (come per la vigilia di Natale o la notte di Pasqua). I cristiani \u2013 grandi maestri della gioia e del festeggiare \u2013 inventarono la festa dei santi (e la commemorazione dei morti) per celebrare il fatto che la morte era vinta e che il duro male era ormai sconfitto. Di questo dobbiamo parlare ai bambini, spiegando il nome Halloween. I celti cattolici (gli antichi irlandesi) iniziarono a celebrare l\u2019illuminazione della notte, le zucche che mettevano in fuga il male, il cielo che visitava la terra, i dolcetti che i morti portavano ai loro discendenti come segno del loro amore sempre presente e della loro intercessioni per i loro cari presso Dio, la sconfitta del male.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" style=\"font-style:italic;font-weight:700\">La tradizione non \u00e8 solo del Nord Europa. Per esempio, anche in Sicilia e Sardegna si usano i \u201cdolci dei morti\u201d. Cosa fare, allora? Forse \u00e8 il caso che noi cattolici ci riappropriamo di Halloween, svincolandoci per quanto possibile dai legami consumistici e spiegando ai nostri ragazzi la comunione che ci lega ai nostri defunti e a tutti i santi.
